Biography
Shatta Youth AKA "The GT Representa" was born in Georgetown, Guyana. Shatta Youth is an outstanding new emerging Soca/Reggae artist. From an early age, the Youth began exercising his voice and vocal skills, and after meeting up with some friends "LiL Slim and "Beanz" he had then fallen into the lyrical game of extending his vocabulary and his creative techniques in appealing to people through words and expression. Shatta Youth has done performances with one of Guyana's best Chutney/Soca artist, the Guyana Baboo himself "Terry Gajraj". Shatta Youth was introduced to Terry through his cousin WR Reaz, one of Guyana's most famous TV personnel and from then on he began meeting other artists such as: "Adrian Dutchin", "King Raj", "Apache Waria", and others. After meeting up for the video shoot of the song "Rum Drinkahz" by Terry Gajraj and Adrian Dutchin, Shatta Youth met with one of the biggest man behind the scenes "Mr. Avinash Singh", the mastermind behind the Supertones Band. Shatta Youth had then started recording songs through the Supertone Production, including his hit song, "Wine Up On Me" and "Bashment Party". The Youth is looking forward to making the best of his opportunities and showing off Guyana's talent.
Whats your birthname and why did you choose "Shatta Youth" as your artist name?
My birthname is originally Mohamed Aleem Gibran Hussain and the name Shatta Youth came to me from years ago. While going
to school in GT, "Richard Ishmael Secondary" I would normally travel with a minibus which I knew very well by the name of
"De Shattas" and from doing that people would refer to me as Shatta, but the name was officially given to me by a friend when
he once refered to me as a "Shatta Youth", so from then on it remiand with me.
When and where were you born?
I was born on December 17th, 1989 in Georgetown Guyana.
Where did you grow up?
As a baby I lived in Eccles on the East Bank, but later moved to Industry on the East Coast and thats where I spent
the rest of my years as a teen, until moving to the US in 2006.
Who were your childhood role models?
As a child I used to look up to alot of my friends. I would hang with older guys so and learn new thigns from them so
I could honestly say that they were the ones who had an influence on me, example one of my great friend "Prem" from Industry.
What was your most memorable experience as a child?
My most memorable experiences I would say were the days when my friends and I would go fishing on the Sea Wall and Swimming
in the Cane Fields and Catching birds.
What were the things you enjoyed as a child?
I enjoyed things such as playing cricket, going to parties and weddings, and just hanging around with my boyz.
What is your favourite music, food, colour?
My favorite type of music are: American Oldies, Reggae, Soca, and Indian. My favorite food is Chowmein and my favorite
colors are Green, Red and Black.
Other than singing, what other hobbies do you have?
Other than singing I would normally be working or going to School, when I have the time I would try to go out and have fun.
Who or what inspired you to start a music career?
I was actually inspired to persue music after meeting up with my friend Randy Prashad aka LIL SLIM in 2004. He was the one who
introduced me to Rap music and got me listening to EMINEM. We were all hooked on Eminem and would try our best to learn his
lyrics so that we could have Rap Battles. During that time period I started to exercise my skills in song writing and thats when
it struck me that I should start singign. Today I am inspired once more by Eminem, but also one of the greatest influences from
the music prespective is Elvis Presley. His life and rise to stardom made me realise that you could come from absolutely nothing
to being the biggest name in the world.
Is there a motto you live by?
The motto in which I live by is simply "everything in life is meant to happen, no matter how it happens, it was written that
it would one way or another."
Are all the songs you sing written by you?
Every song which I recorded so far were all written and constructed by me. One of the things I enjoy doing is writing new songs.
Which song is your favourite?
It's hard to choose a favorite song from my playlist but I would say that "Wine up on me" is my favorite, but maybe its because
it was the first song I had recorded professionally.
Who is your manager and how did you guys meet?
To be honest I do not have a manager I try to do all I could for my self for now until my name gets out there more and maybe
I could find someone who is really willing and dedicated to help me. But so far I have alot of help towards my music including
people like my cousin "WR Reaz" from Guyana, and my good friend Rob aka DJ Execute from Innovative Soundz (IVS).
What was your first performance like and where?
My first actual performance was in a bar in the Bronx NY called Amazon, it was with Terry Gajraj and the band. I was a bit
nervous because I had never sang infront of a crowd like that before nor did I practice. But never the less as soon as I said
"run de riddim" I placed my fear behind and started doing what I do.
What is your fan base like?
My fan base is on the rise I would say, its growing and growing as the days go by.Hopefully by the next 6 months it would be
very big. I would love to get people from everywhere to listen my songs.
Do you get a lot of support locally?
I do get alot of support from my Family especially, including my Mom and Sister. All my other relatives cheer me on and all my
friends keeps pushing me to do all I could to make it somewhere.
Do you have anything in the making, new song, new album, video?
Indeed I am always working on a new song, everyday, every week. I am hoping to drop my Album by January or Feb. 2010. and my
first music video will be "Wine up on me" which is being shot in Guyana November 22nd 2009.
As a new comer to the music industry what should people expect from you?
As a new comer I would like to let people know that their expectations from me would be totally different from what I would
actually present to them. Unlike other Soca/Reggae/Chutney artsits, "Shatta Youth" is very versatile and is capable of doing
numerous differnt types of Genres. What everyone should expect is something new out of Guyana. A new voice, a new style and a
new beginning for Artists like me and others who are about to follow.
Who would you gave credit to for being who you are today?
The people who I have to give credit for are my boi Randy Prashad aka Lil Slim for introduing me to the music scene
, My cousin WR Reaz for all the hard work and promotion, my boi Dj EXecute, also for alot of promotion, advices and ideas,
my Mother and Sister for always supporting me with my music and everything else, and to everyone else out there for listening to my songs.
Do you think the entertainment level in Guyana is rising? If yes or no... Why?
I think the entertainment level in Guyana is rising rapidly. When I had left Guyana in 2006, there were not many artists out there
who I would say were singing proper songs, but when I check up on them today, they are so many of them popping out from everywhere
and making some really nice music.
What advice would you give to persons interested in starting a music career?
For those who might be interested in starting a music career I would advise them to find their strengths and weaknesses
and use them to their advantages, whether its with voice or lyrical skills. Music is nothing but fun to me, and for those
who love it as much as I do, let it be something you love doing and not something you want to do because of Fame and Fortune.
Let music come from your heart, life and imagination. Let it be heard. There would be many difficulties and hardships but those
are the battles people have to put up with in order to be successful.
What are your long term career goals?
As of right now I could only think about finishing College and starting a life for my self. But for music wise, I am planning
on making as many songs, albums and music videos as possible to put my self as well as Guyana on the map as a Talented and Great Country.

Observer (2010-02-19 00:03:53) i have listened to your songs on this website, Mr. Hosein. You have potential. However, I recommend you find yourself a good enough producer and manager who'll facilitate and craft your advancement in this field. And a word to the wise: while I would encourage you to be ambitious, I'd also encourage you to be realistic. Have a backup plan at all times. Educate yourself further, for it will enable your opening doors in the future. Respect, though, for your superb efforts.
