Catherine Spicer of Powergen retained her Under-18 Table Tennis title with a 3-1 against Renuka Sitram of Cunupia Crew in the final of the second leg of the Solo National Junior Championships at the Central Regional Indoor Sport Arena, yesterday.
Spicer, who retained her U-15 Singles and the U-15 Mixed Doubles with Meshach Pillai, in addition to claiming the U-15 Doubles with Athenia Gregoire, took the first set 11-5. However, Sitram won the second set, which went down to the wire, 11-13. But that was the only set she would win, as Spicer stormed back to take the third and fourth sets 11-8 and 11-3, respectively.
Pillai on the other hand claimed another title, adding to the Boys U-15 Singles and the Mixed Doubles titles. He teamed up with Andreus Abraham to defeat Arun Roopnarine and Marc Pillai in the Boys Under-15 doubles final 3-0, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9. Arun Roopnarine cruised past Powergen team-mate Sarvesh Mungal 3-0 in the U-13 Boys final 11-9, 11-2, 11-5, while Brittany Joseph of Arima Hawks claimed the Girls U-13 title with a 3-0 win over team-mate Adefa James 11-9, 11-9, 14-12.
The Under-18 boys singles title went to Andreus Abraham of Carenage Blasters who was a 3-2 winner over club-mate Khadeem Moore 7-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7. Catherine Spicer ended the tournament with four gold, Meshach Pillai, three gold, Arun Roopnarine, two gold and two silver and Andreus Abraham two gold medals.
