Carifesta X (August 22 - 31, 2008)

CARIFESTA stands for the Caribbean Festival of Arts. It is the region's roving, multidisciplinary, mega arts festival which attracts a wide range of creative artists from various Caribbean and Latin American Countries. CARIFESTA was the culmination of the idea that started in 1970 when participants at an Artists and Writers Convention in Guyana complained about the absence of an outlet to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Region and at the same time give recognition to its outstanding artists and art forms. Carifesta History

Carifesta is for and about the people of this region; the 'folk' who remain the foundation and the driving forces of our collective nations. These are the unsung ones, who remember the solid values, the respect, the honesty and the simplicity. They make it their purpose, their raison d'etre to behave as true elders do, and bestow their knowledge and experience on the younger ones. Well carifesta is now over leaving lasting memories that can never be forgotten carifesta has surely placed Guyana on the map lets hope that this is the foundation for greater development within the entertainment, arts or any other forms of growing industries in Guyana and surely Guyanese will be recognzie around the world so lets continue to strive for perfection,"ah de real thing" its a Guyanese thing

Carifesta Cari... Cari... Festival!!! Carifesta X in Guyana was a very spectacular event which not only was a success but one which left an everlasting memory in the minds of many. It was exciting, fun and a learning experience not just for us Guyanese but for the other countries that participated as well. So congradulations to all who participated in Carifesta X and thank you all for making it a success. One People, One Nation, One Destiny! I Love Guyana. One Caribbean.

I think that carifesta is a great experience for those who never witness this event. It is very interesting to everyone out there. The opening,the concerts, the book fair,the brazilian air writing every was just great to witness.

I think Carifesta give us as Guyanese the opportunity to gain recognition by showcasing what we have here to offer. I must give a big welcome to having Carifesta back home after 36yrs.

I think Carifesta X is goin 2 be great in Guyana, after 36 yrs. There will be a lot of people there, also I think the ticket is the problem cause everyone would not get 2 see it. There will be alot of events there...I hope everyone from the other countries enjoy it.

i think Guyana is moving another step forward with hosting Carifesta X. I must commend the government for making Carifesta tickets free for all. y i say this is because these tickets are not going to ordinary people who need them. they r going to those in authority and there friends and family, however I do understand what the president is trying to do but most of the people I met have all said they would have rather paid for their own tickets, since that would have caused less corruption because still the poor are no getting to see anything, is the people in position who are scaping the free tickets. Let me tell you that if we had to pay at least one hundred dollars ($100) we would have paid it and beleive me that this might be the first letter you will see on this matter but there's alot to come.

I think Carifesta is great. It gives us Guyanese a chance to show case our self in every possible ways. I aslo think that everyone should support it. Its an event long over 30 years and we as Guyanese should make it be as best as we can hope. I see all my fellow Guyanese there whether the're African, Indians, Amerindians all are welcome.

It will be a spectacular event, one at which some of our country's most beautiful and talented young persons will be showcasing their talent as well as adults too. This gives our country an opportunity to gather more tourist. Greetings all. Finally, we got a chance to be showcased. Why are persons interested in having events in Reg. 6? Georgetown has so many options for persons visiting unlike Reg 6...ya'll gon put the visitors to ride cows in the country. Berbice need serious development and no one is willing to invest. This was experienced in the 17th century and is once again being repeated if my memory serves me correctly. Lauristan why dont you and your friends assist in developing Reg 6 and maybe we can host it there the next time around. There are so many options in Georgetown : Visiting the Musieum, craft shopping, visiting the zoo and parks, and many more.

Hey people, fah real what is deh plan fah region 6? That a question Minister, plz answer or anyone else with the info. And more specific New Amsterdam. Anyways from what my friends in Jamaica says I know Our country will just be the centre for tourism in the summer. And CARIFESTA will be rocking, I have my friends in the Fashion Village and I know with the kind of people we have here Carifesta will be a blast. Everyone must come because Guyana will be the place to be. Guyana is hosting, Peace see yal at Carifesta cuz I'm not missing it for the world and so yall must do the same too!! peace out
