"Everybody who wants to be a singer in Guyana should take a shot at this competition. Even if you don't win you get a platform to pursue your dreams of being a singer and in my case i have won a car thanks to GT&T." Those were the immediate sentiments of Berbice nurse Gailann Singh aka Priya, age 24 after she was announced the winner of the first ever staged, Bollywood segment of the Guyana Star competition hosted by GT&T.

From a line up of 11, her joy was obvious when GT&T CEO Yog Mahadeo announced her name as the person who won the keys to the first Prize car in the GT&T Bollywood segment of the Guyana Star show staged at Albion on Friday Night. The crowd support for the event was massive and they were treated to some most entertaining presentations from the singers.

They danced and did a combination of Bollywood and Chutney songs. Though they were in a singing competition they returned to dance dressed in shiny blue/green Indian influenced garb. Through her winning she has become the first person to win such a segment in the competition's history. So over Joyed was she when her name was announced that she continuously jumped up and then danced after receiving embraces galore from well wishers and supporters.

Joel formerly of West Ruimveldt placed 2nd, Gouradai Pooran placed 3rd, Prakash Sadaram placed 4th and Kamal Rattan placed 5th. The winner walked away with the keys to a Car while the second place finisher got $500,000. $250, $100, 000 and $50,000 were also handed over to the 3rd to 5th place respectively. GTT CEO Mahadeo says that the event was success and guarantees that there will be another competition this year as his company continues to take on its corporate responsibility of not just taking but giving back to make the lives of people better while realizing their dreams.
