I dance upon the brink of day,
And try to keep the night away,
I stand between the dark and night
And ere the sun dives out of sight
I borrow from his flaming rays-
The splendour of a million days.
The rainbow in my hand I hold,
Vermilion, russet, orange, gold,
I strive to light the dark’ning sky
The day, I say, it shall not die
For who has seen the night so gay
He would not change it for the day
And though I lose the uneven fight
I fill the inky sky with light.
But countless eyes at night must play
Where only one had ruled the day.
